Yeast infection or could it be something else?
About 4 days ago I started to notice that my clitoris and the area around it was slightly itchy. I shrugged it off and thought no big deal. The next day it was a little bit worse then it had been. Yesterday was day three and I posted my symptoms because my vagina became very dry and itchy. Almost every answer I had suggested that it was a yeast infection. My clitoris and the surrounding area is still very itchy and the inside walls to my vagina are some what itchy as well. I noticed today that my vagina is a little bit red but I would assume that it’s from the itching. For a few hours yesterday it did sting a little bit when I went to the bathroom but I haven’t had a problem since. I’ve also noticed that my discharge is like a milky white color. I usually don’t have discharge in my underwear as much as I do now but it’s not cottage cheese like or lumpy like many people say are one of the symptoms to a yeast infection. I looked online a lot and I’ve been putting aloe on my clitoris to soothe the itching and it helps for a while. I tried something last night that I found online to help a yeast infection. Tonight I tried something different. Tomorrow I’m picking up some medication to treat a yeast infection. Have I waited too long to treat it? Is it better to try at home treatments or go and get medication right away? Also, if I treat myself for a yeast infection but it turns out that isn’t the problem, will that do anything to me?

It’s not too late to treat it. Sounds more like a topical yeast infection (skin only, no cottage cheese discharge) if so you can drink an 8 oz glass of water with 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar added to it about 2-3 times a day or you can add 1 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide to a cup of water and pour it over the area 2-4 times a day.
Different types of infections:
Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching
Home remedies like – garlic on a string (watch out garlic juice stings), tea tree oil, eating lots of plain yogurt or smearing plain yogurt on a pad, never worked for me. You can buy Monistat over-the-counter in the USA.
Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva
See a doctor
It’s probably not too late for the medication treatment for it. It does sound like a yest infection. Many pharmacies also sell test at home kits for yest infection that you could buy to make sure if you have that. Also, one home treatment that I heard for yest infection was to dip a tampon into a natural yogurt (no sugar or flavors added!!! ) and put it inside of you, I think for 20 min or something. This should balance the ph levels and help. But I would try the medicines from the pharmacy, you don’t want this to get out of control or worse. Good luck
I have had many yeast infections during my lifetime and each one presented a bit differently. And, being an RN for over 25 years have seen tons of yeast infections, it sounds pretty typical to me of one. I would pick up something that treats both internally and externally simultaneously. Use it for the full amount of time-typically a 7 day treatment. You could also try eating yogurt with active cultures and as crazy as this may sound apply a small amount of plain yogurt externally as you would a cream. It works in some cases. If it persists, definitely go see your doctor.
While, yes, it could be a yeast infection. I would go to your doctor to be sure. Cause you could be wasting your time trying to treat a yeast infection when that’s not it at all. When I changed laundry detergents this SAME thing happened. I knew it wasn’t a yeast infection because I had had them before, and my doctor confirmed it. Changed back to my old detergent and never had the problem again. It was similar to a yeast infection, but it was different at the same time. So don’t assume. Go find out so you can get it taken care of.
