What are the signs or symptoms of a yeast infection?
I have had my period for almost 12 years now and during the last two cycles I noticed that in the week before my period I had some white yellowish discharge that smells and I never experienced this before in the 12 years that I’ve been getting my period but I don’t have any burning or itching symptoms ttherefore, I am wondering if I am starting to get a yeast infection however, I am not sure of the signs or symptoms because I’ve never had a yeast infection before or could I just be experiencing a hormone inbalance? thanks for your help!
I’ve also been having a lot of cramping and my period is a few days late this month so could it also mean that it is coming soon

A few of possibilities. You need to see a doctor for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Vaginal yeast infection (yeast vaginitis) and vulvitis cause symptoms that are nonspecific, which means that aside from the yeast infection, other conditions can cause the identical symptoms. The most common symptom of a vaginal yeast infection is itching in the vaginal and/or vulvar area. Other symptoms of vaginal yeast infection and vulvitis include:
* burning,
* soreness,
* pain during intercourse and/or urination, and
* vaginal discharge. Vaginal discharge is not always present, but when it occurs, the discharge is odorless and typically has a whitish, thick appearance and texture, like cottage cheese.
Trichomonas: Many women have signs or symptoms of infection which include a frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge with a strong odor. The infection also may cause discomfort during intercourse and urination, as well as irritation and itching of the female genital area. In rare cases, lower abdominal pain can occur. Symptoms usually appear in women within 5 to 28 days of exposure. Treatment is usually with the drug metronidazole given by mouth in a single dose. The symptoms of trichomoniasis in infected men may disappear within a few weeks without treatment. However, an infected man, even a man who has never had symptoms or whose symptoms have stopped, can continue to infect a female partner until he has been treated. Therefore, both partners should be treated at the same time to eliminate the parasite. Persons being treated for trichomoniasis should avoid sex until they and their sex partners complete treatment and have no symptoms. Metronidazole can be used by pregnant women. Having trichomoniasis once does not protect a person from getting it again. Following successful treatment, people can still be susceptible to re-infection. Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, can reduce the risk of transmission of trichomoniasis.
Bacterial vaginosis is an abnormal vaginal condition that is characterized by vaginal discharge. The condition results from an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina. In the past, the condition was called Gardnerella vaginitis, after the bacteria that was thought to cause the condition. However, the new name, bacterial vaginosis, reflects the recent research establishing that there are a number of species of bacteria that naturally live in the vaginal area. The Gardnerella organism is not the sole culprit causing the symptoms. When these multiple species of bacteria become imbalanced, a woman can have a vaginal discharge that is associated with a foul odor. Bacterial vaginosis is not passed by sex and is not dangerous, but it can cause disturbing symptoms. Any woman with an unusual discharge should be evaluated so that serious infections, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can be excluded. The symptoms of bacterial vaginosis are vaginal discharge and odor. Usually, there are no other symptoms.
The amount of vaginal discharge that is considered normal varies from woman to woman. Therefore, any degree of vaginal discharge that is abnormal for a particular woman should be evaluated.
