I’ve been doing some looking around on Internet sites regarding yeast infections and found that plain yogurt helps balance the bacteria and stuff "down there". I read that the most effective way to rid of the infection is to apply it directly to the vulva and inside of your vagina, but I am hesitant on how to do so. Any ladies have advice on how one should go about putting yogurt up their vagina properly? Lol … I read that you can put it inside a tampon applicator and freeze the yogurt inside and then insert it as you would a tampon and leave it in there for an hour or so, but how to get that thing out makes me wonder. Please help me out! I don’t want to get over the counter treatment, my mom says it helps at first, but they come back a lot easier.

*I know it’s a lot to read, but please bare with me here*

A few weeks ago I experienced what I figured was a UTI (burning sensation while urination, and urinating very frequently). I took antibiotics left over from the last time I had had one (I took one tablet twice daily for about 4 days), and the UTI went away. Almost immediately after the painful urination/urinary frequency went away, I started noticing that I had a thick, white, paste-like discharge with an odd but not fishy-like odor. It was also extremely itchy, and I figured it was a yeast infection, so I used some Vagisil, though not regularly, and it helped the itching go away but because I had itched so much and so hard I had a cut right above my clitoris and it hurt around the opening to my vagina.

The itching has been going on for about a week or so, though its cut back the last two days. Me and my boyfriend had not had sex for about 2 weeks, given my condition, but I felt much better "down there" today, and we had sex. Immediately after, he noticed that my vulva was extremely swollen. He took a picture and showed me, sure enough, it was extremely swollen, and painful. He looked at it and said that it looked cracked, too.

Also. and I forgot to mention this earlier, I wash my vagina a lot. I know I shouldn’t, but I do wash it out thoroughly with antibacterial soap, and then wash it out with a scented body wash. I rinse every time, but I know I shouldn’t be washing it at all with the soaps or body washes. I won’t be doing so from not on, so please do not lecture me.

We just looked it up online and a lot of the symptoms I am having seem to be related to Vulvovaginitis:
Irritation and itching of the genital area
Inflammation (irritation, redness, and swelling) of the labia majora, labia minora, or perineal area
Vaginal discharge
Discomfort or burning when urinating or while having sex

Is there any home remedy or over the counter medication/cream that will cure it?

About four days ago I and my partner had sex for about an hour. We’re monogamous, so no condom was used, however, our only lubrication was saliva. The next day, I wore rather tight pants for 12 hours straight at work, so I was not surprised when my vulva and clitoris started itching and swelling. I figured it was caused by the chafing of the pants and friction of the sex. That continued for two days.

Now, the itching is gone and the swelling is nonexistent, however, I am experiencing a thick, creamy, discharge. I have had a yeast infection once before, from taking antibiotics, and I know this is not what it is. The discharge is so bad that, if I don’t check on it for about two hours, it will soak through my pants. I am about to start my period in about 2-3 days, at which time I’m thinking everything will sort itself out down there and I am on birth control. While the chafing after sex has happened before, the discharge has not. Any ideas as to what this could be?

Ok, I am going to the doctor’s tomorrow for this.
Almost a week ago, right after my period, I started experiencing itching in my clitoris and vulva area, and I noticed 3 little bumps under my clitoris, but Im really not sure if they are actual bumps because when I touch them, they do not hurt and my right labia minora is a little swollen, so I really cant tell. Ok, a week or two ago right after my period, I started noticing itching in my vulva and clitoris area….pretty soon my right labia minora started swelling(still swollen as I type)…eventually the excessive itchiness went away…I read the symptoms for HIV and this is one of them…also it says extreme fatigue, I do get fatigued sometimes to where I have to take a nap during my lunch break, but I dont think it is extreme though. About 5 days ago I ended my period. Bear with me, ladies, I have a lot to go through. First, I have never had a yeast infection before. Second, I used a Monistat screening kit and my vaginal pH is normal, so it doesn’t look like something more serious. I’ve only been sexually active for about a month, which also adds to my concern it might be yeast. Anyway,

I’ve been having mild off and on irritation on my vulva, almost near the clitoris, for the last day and a half. When I went to check to see if everything was ok, I noticed that the skin was sensitive, but otherwise normal. I also noticed discharge, more discharge than I usually have this time of month (a week from my period). While the discharge is white, it’s not thick or cheesy, and it doesn’t smell. Frankly, it almost looks like fertile cervical mucus, but I ovulated last week (I was tracking), so there shouldn’t be any fertile CM. I don’t have any vaginal itching or burning. I know some of y’all will suggest seeing a doc, and I plan to, but I’d really appreciate some indication as to whether this sounds like yeast or not. Thanks a ton!

A couple days ago I started to develop symptoms of a yeast infection (itching, burning, discomfort, etc.). It progressively got worse so I got that cream stuff for it. I’ve been using it for two days now and the infection has only gotten worse. My outer labia is swollen to about three times its original size and I’ve developed this weird, itchy rash extending from my labia to the insides of my legs and above my clitoris (across the whole top..where you shave or whatever). But through all these symptoms, I don’t have any discharge and the itching seems to be only on my vulva, instead of inside my vagina. I’ve never had anything like this before. Previous yeast infections always started going away soon after applying the cream. Has anyone had this similar problem? Do you know what it might be? Please help.

Is it possible that I have a yeast infection if only my vulva is itchy, not my actual vagina? I have had one yeast infection before but I didn’t even notice any symptom-at my annual gyno appointment she noticed a small one and gave me the meds for it. I also have little tiny white bumps, which may or may not have been there before…I don’t think its actually the bumps that itch, because they are more up by my clitoris. I had unprotected oral sex about 6 weeks ago, and these mild symptoms have been happening since then. At first I got really concerned that it was herpes, but the bumps were there about 7-8 hours after contact, and I don’t think herpes can show up that fast? Also there has been no change to the bumps, and they may have been there for awhile, they are really really small and I only noticed them because I was nervous and checking things out down there to make sure there wasn’t a problem. I also already have oral herpes, so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t be very likely that he would have passed oral herpes to me down there. That’s the only thing I’ve ever done below the waist, so I know its not an old infection.

Hi i did something stupid to shave my vagina while showering. I noticed that my vaginal discharge was getting heavier. Then I started scratchin on the outside of my vulva. So I figured I had some type of yeast infection.

Right after my period, I started itching on and near my clitoris, that was a few days ago, the itching is still there and it feels like it’s getting worse. I think I’ve been suffering from a yeast infection for about a month now. Around Oct. 3 I started having the abnormal discharge and burning sensation in my vagina when I Pee. However, October 12 I got my period and the burning sensation went away and obviously I couldn’t tell whether there was still abnormal discharge until after it went off. I did read that menstruation helps pass bacteria out of the vagina(don’t really know if that’s accurate). Anyway, after my period went off, I began to have full force itching in my vagina and on the outside, but no more burning sensation when i pee. The discharge had no odor and was white. Now it has an odor and is more yellowish. I need help with figuring this out. I was certain that this might be a yeast infection, but I don’t know anymore. It might be Bacterial Vaginosis or Trich from what I been reading. The symptoms are pretty much the same for all 3. It is easy to say go to the doctor, but I don’t have insurance so I don’t know what to do.

I tried using an antifungal cream but that made my itching worse and my vulva swelled. So I didn’t even use it the full 7 days. I’ve tried the sitz bath with vinegar and salt. That helps temporarily. I’ve been taking acidophilus pills which has been helping alot with the itching, but still have it a little. I’m thinking of trying garlic vitamins and tea tree oil. I’m also going to buy some plain yogurt. I just want to know does anyone have any other suggestions regarding natural remedies. Thanks!

I was wondering if taking the pill diflucan for a yeast infection would be enough to completely cure it, or would I need to use a cream for the outside? A few days after my period, I noticed some itching around my crotch area. This went on for 2-3 days without becoming severe. I then had sex with my boyfriend yesterday, but it did not feel good, so I had him pull out. He noticed little chunks of white discharge on his penis, so we eventually came to the conclusion that I had a yeast infection. I have never had one before. We just went and purchased the generic store brand of Monistat 3-Day with three vaginal suppositories and three applicators (I’d heard that the actual Monistat brand burns upon application, so I didn’t want to take any chances with that). I am a little puzzled by the applicators and the suppositories, but I’ll figure it out tonight before use. I am 25 years old, to give some background.

I was wondering, since we had sex while I had the yeast infection, does he need to get treated as well? I have read that he could cause me to get another vaginal yeast infection if we had sex again after I treat what I have now. How does a male get treated for this? We will not be having sex until I am rid of this yeast infection.

Also, do vaginal yeast infections ever go away on their own, or do they always need to be cured with OTC or doctor-prescribed treatments? Are there any side effects of waiting more than a few days to get treated?
