Has anyone tried the garlic clove in vagina for candida/yeast infection? Women answers only thanks?

July 12th, 2009 by admin | Filed in Yeast Infection Treatments

Have any of you gals out there (no male answers thank you – honestly lol!!) around the world tried the treatment for thrush/yeast/candida infection where you put a garlic clove in there overnight?

If so how many days did you need to do this,
did you leave the garlic clove whole, or score it or crush it a bit,
and how effective was treatment?
Just for your information ladies it CANNOT get lost up there or "work its way past/into the cervix"… this is not possible :)

Also please assume that one has already visited the doctor and told that it’s thrush. There is more than one way to get rid of thrush, the chemist is not God!!

Please answer only if you have tried this or if you have a friend/sister/mum etc who has tried it. :)

Fresh garlic in contact with mucous membranes is a dangerous thing. Cut it in two or crush it and you are really asking for big trouble. Garlic is strong stuff. It will "burn" the mucous membrane of your vagina and leave sores which never really heal properly.

I have had clients who did that and regretted it ever after. Same thing with people who put half a clove of garlic up their nostrils to ward off a cold: they get sores inside their nose which never heal properly for the rest of their lives.

The best cure for candida/yeast infection is GSE (grapefruit seed extract). I’ll give you the treatment by email if you are interested. It’s a bit long to put it here.

All the best for good health very soon!

NO! NO! NO! Do not stick garlic in your vag! What if it works it’s way all the way up by your cervix, you’ll have to go to the gyn to get it our. Go get the proper medicine at the pharmacy. Also, you should go to the gyn to be sure what type of organism you have to treat it properly.

I have heard it before, but that is one home remedy I don’t think I would be willing to try. I just keep thinking it would burn! And I also think of that garlic smell that stays on your hands for a day when you cook with garlic – even after washing your hands. I find the 1 day treatment of OTC yeast infection medication works pretty well.

Good way to keep away rapist vampires though. (SORRY!! I had to!!)

Garlic eaten raw burns in your mouth, I know this from experience. Can you imagine using it in your vagina. You would run to the emergency room. Eating raw garlic is very healthy and kills a lot of bacterias. Try crushing raw garlic and putting it on some bread to avoid stomach aches. Do this for a week and see, if it helps.
Avoid eating anything with sugar in it as this might worsen your condition.
Good luck and health to you.

put a garlic clove in your mouth and feel how it burns the mucous membranes
How can you even think of putting it down there? It will burn like hell and damage the mucous lining there.—please don’t use it!

Here is what my Grand Mum’s herb book says to do.

Garlic is both antibacterial and antifungal.
while they used to use crushed garlic now
they are mostly using garlic in extract form it has been shown to inhibit the growth of candida albicans

the treatment the I have listed is
to insert garlic capsules in the morning and acidophilus capsules at night to create an environment that will hlep restore healthy bacteria.

the other treatments that are listed.

    Herbal douches
herbal douches can also support and regenerate tissue.

herbs with such healing effects include
    calendula
    yarrow
    cinnamon
    golden seall
    marsh-mallow root
    and dandelion.
make a strong tea using one or more of these herbs and use it as a douche twice daily for one week
2 tsp of herb for every 1 cup of boiling water.

tea-tree oil also makes an effective douche for fighting infections
put 20 drops of tea-tree oil in 1 qt of warm water and douche twice a day.

    PLEASE NOTE
CINNAMON SHOULD NOT BE USED IN LARGE QUANTITIES BY WOMEN WHO ARE PREGNANT.

    Vinegar sitz bath
add 1-2 cups of apple cider vinegar and one cup of salt to a half baht of warm water vinegar helps to support a normal acidic balance while the salt disinfects
take a 10 min bath daily until your symptoms disappear or to prevent the recurrence of infection.

    herbel sitz bath
pour 1 qt of boiling water over 2-3 tsp of oak bark steep for 15 min and than strain. pour the remaining liquid into a sitz bath and soak 1-2 times daily for relief.
Tannin rich oak bark reduces swollen membranes and will help dry up vaginal discharge and secretions

if you get recuring yeast infections there is a diet and some other things that can help feel free to email me to get them

I have done this and it works incredibly well. It smells strange down there while you are doing it, but it feels incredibly clean once you’re healed. I highly recommend this remedy. I have also been soaking a tampon in yogurt for 1 hour, then inserting. I have used Yeast Arrest which contains boric acid, Oregon Grape, and Calendula. These three remedies all put together worked wonders. My vagina feels so much cleaner and healthier than before. I read somewhere that any burning to the mucous membrane tissue repairs itself quickly, so I’m not worried about that at all. I was WAY more concerned with having this gross fungi taking over my body. While eating yogurt and acidophilus helps, it just wasn’t fast enough or strong enough to kill the yeast infection in my vagina. Oh and be sure to cut the garlic in half to release the juices before you insert it.

I have used this method often to fight vaginal yeast infections. Take one single clove & remove the outer skin. If your infection is pretty bad, take the point of a knife and make little cuts in the clove. Then, lie on your back and insert it as far as you can. The funny thing about this treatment is that you will find that you can taste garlic in your mouth after about 30 minutes (another good reason to do this at night). Someone told me of this side effect and I didn’t believe them. Well, now I know it’s true! My breath smells like I’ve eaten loads of garlic toast by morning. Usually, I find that when I sit on the toilet the next morning for my first morning pee, the garlic just slips right out. And, my infection is much better. I suggest you repeat this for at least one extra night after your symptoms are gone. Works wonders and it’s much less messy than yogurt.

I agree with Morenasa. I have done this numerous times since I have had recurring yeast infections…..I am now following an antifungal diet with some nutritional supplements. The only times inserting garlic has ever burned is when I cut a clove in half or in a fourth and insert it with the juice. When I stick my nails to let the juice out first, I dry it and them insert it…doesn’t burn. Though, if you have a bad yeast infection, which you might not be aware of until you go to the doctor, you might irritate yourself if you have sores due to the severe yeast infection…..which happened to me once. I also let the garlic sit for about half an hour before inserting it, especially if it is real fresh..usually can tell if it smells very strong. If I were you, I would start with a small piece and not insert it way in. You want to keep it close to the opening so you are able to pull out easily. I have found this to be extremely effective without drug side effects. Repeat every 2 days or depending on how you react. I also cut a clove into pieces (not chew em, too potent for me) and swallow them with some coconut milk so it does not irritate my stomach. Do it in small portions. It will help intestinal yeast since that is where it usually starts. Good luck.

I have had a huge problem for 2 years with yeast infections! I visited doctors and they kept on giving me antibiotics and the problem just got worst everytime! SO I said why not give a try to the garclic! You wont beleive the miracle it does! I only left it for 4 hours and my problem vanished for ever! I suggest 100% the treatment and stay away from doctors and medicine! The reason the doctors arent telling us anything is because of the money!

  12. sharon | 5/10/09

ive used this method three times now, it WORKS! and FAST! it does NOT burn, and the average vagina is only four inches deep, so it CANNOT get lost in there, just find the garlic with your fingers. if you realy think that objects can become lost in your vagina you need to learn more about female anatomy and familiarise yourself with your own body! the garlic juice does NOT burn at all, although you can taste it in your mouth…the tate becomes stronger when you bend over….weird..all i can think of is the garlic juices are absorbed by the body and enter the blood stream…..its safe, natural, and cheap…DO IT!

This is my first yeast infection and, through desperation, I decided to try inserting a garlic clove. I can tell you it definitely feels much better! The itching was intense but 5 minutes after I inserted the garlic clove I feel so much better. The first time I inserted it with no slits or anything. This time I put a few slits (with my nail) in the garlic and sewed a string through it to pull it out easier. Its working! The itching is going away and there isn’t as much yeast up there (I know because I had to search around for the clove up there the first time) sorry for tmi. But please dont believe people when they say it’ll get lost in your cervix or it isn’t safe. It’s totally safe, doesn’t burn and it works. Women, don’t be so afraid of your own body! It’s your vagina and there is an infection leaking out of you! The only real side effect is tasting the garlic (it’s totally true) and I’d rather taste a mouth full of garlic than to have a cottage cheese like discharge growing inside my vajajay. Now that’s gross!

I was really skeptical about trying this garlic thing. I mean who wants to burn the inside of their woman parts and who would believe everything you read on the internet. But honestly within 2 minutes the itching was gone. I just put one clove in and after 15 minutes took it out.. I did it 4 times in one day and had a salt water bath at the end of the day. I cannot stress how effective this was.. the garlic smell doesnt stay. If you shower it’s gone. I highly reccomend this and would do it again in a heart beat if I ever got another yeast infection.
I owe my life to garlic! :)

This does work, it is safe, and I’ve never had it burn me at all, and it has definitely never given me any type of wound … in fact it is safer than all of those chemicals everyone wants you to put in there.

The fact is that regularly using the over-the-counter creams on these infections can possibly make the infections come back stronger, so you should really avoid using the creams unless you’ve tried the natural remedies and they haven’t worked.

It can’t get lost, it has no where to go, so don’t worry about that. Some of the comments here are very uneducated, and were obviously left by people who are under the impression that you have to use expensive modern chemicals to treat everything… women have had yeast infections since the beginning of human time, and none of that stuff was around until recently.

    Feel better!

How long can I wait for clove to come out? I am getting really worried because I inserted a garlic clove about 5 days ago and my period started 3 days ago. I am worried if I pushed it in cervix.

Wow – awesome thread! Guess this is what you find when you google “cure yeast infection with garlic”!

Well I am trying it right now. I followed these steps:
    1. Peeled garlic (chose medium sized piece with no bruising)
    2. Got a needle and thread and made a little string around the root end (for my own piece of mind)
    3. Licked it for lubrication and inserted it like a tampon. Am planning to leave it overnight.

Also, and this is for everyone’s advice, I ground up a small clove with a few tablespoons of water in a pestle and mortar. I soaked a couple of cotton pads in it and soaked my vulva (luckily I am single!). It burned like crap. I managed to restained myself from shouting “gah if burns it burns” though. However, now it feels quite cool and not itchy. I’m not worried about burning – scratching and rubbing the itching like I was doing before is likely to be worse for me.

I’m gonna leave this window open and will post with an update in a few days.

  18. Phin | 18/03/10

    Reporting back, two days later.

All is good with the world, and I am free of itching. Removed the garlic in the morning, and apart from aromatic whiffs from my knickers when I went to the bathroom, there have been no adverse effects at all.

All in all I will definitely do this again, rather than buy expensive creams and pessaries. The only thing I will do next time is crush some garlic with olive oli for extenal use, as I reckon it’d be more soothing. If I had yoghurt, I’d probably mash it with that.

Hope this helps other Googlers (and other users of this site!)
